NEW ID & Samsung Electronics Initiate TV-Based Global OTT Service (‘FAST’) in Korea

Six New Digital Broadcasting Channels Launching on Jan 27th

  • NEW ID partners with Samsung Electronics to distribute and operate Korean channels on Samsung TV Plus

  • Starting domestic FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) services, already used by more than half of the U.S. population

NEW ID, the latest subsidiary company of a global media group Next Entertainment World, partners with Samsung Electronics for the provision and operation of Korean channels on Samsung TV Plus, launching six new digital channels on the 27th. This partnership signifies the expansion of Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) platforms in Korea, a service already used by more than half of the U.S. population. With Samsung Electronics, NEW ID is planning to launch more than 15 channels in domestic services. NEW ID previously has launched a K-Pop specialized channel ‘NEW K.ID’ and a Korean movies channel ‘NEW K.MOVIES’ on Samsung TV Plus U.S. last November.

Samsung TV Plus is a Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST), a global content platform that offers users to enjoy an exciting and diverse collection of channels including but not limited to entertainment shows, drama, news, movies without subscription fees once connected to the internet. Users in Korea can watch new channels through Samsung TV Plus App pre-installed in Samsung Smart TV 16’-20’ models.

The following are the newly launched channels: a 24-hour global movie curation channel ‘NEW MOVIES’, a music video & sing-along channel ‘Mubeat’, a food styling channel ‘Wife’s Cuisine’, automotive specialist channel ‘Motorgraph’, an inspirational storytelling channel ‘Sellev’, and a global K-Pop news channel ‘Whosfan News’.

“FAST service has been growing aggressively across the world. We are delighted to expand the FAST service into the Korean market through the partnership with Samsung Electronics. Whereas our goal in the global market was to push Korean content channel, our goal in Korea is to become a platform operator representing ‘diversity’ of premium content”, said June Park, the CEO of NEW ID.
